Sara McMillan Brown, who the theatre at Studio 1 is named after, will always be known as an incredible mom, wife, friend, and community member. Her family and friends were her life and anyone who knew her would say she was such a giving, caring person. She gave countless hours to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter where she served on the Vestry, the Episcopal Church Women, the Annual Bazaar, the Shepherd Committee, and the Capital Improvement Committee. Sara’s community involvement was another big part of her life. She served as president of the Service League, Century Book Club, and the Little Club.
The Sara McMillan Brown Theatre is a thrust stage with seating on three sides of the stage. This provides the audience with a very intimate experience that is not found anywhere else in Burlington. Studio 1 is excited to share a mission of providing the area with unique, local performing arts opportunities which bring people together in a positive way. With that mission, we have been able to produce shows that reach out and include the deaf community and people with disabilities. Classes are also taught in the theatre where adults and children learn everything from fencing to acting. All of these events happening in the theatre would make Sara so proud to have her name attached to this organization since that is what she was all about.
